The verse that struck me most is vs 24, “I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.”
Observations:
I’m not sure what Paul’s circumstances were at the time that he wrote this, but from the passage you can tell that visiting the Philippians was not going to be easy. He was going to send Timothy first and then adds at the end that he is confident God will send him, too. I read a sense of hope in Paul’s comment here. He was always reliant on God and his will, not his own. He hopes to go visit the Philippians but he waits upon the Lord for it to happen. Paul could have complained, he could have insisted, instead he is patiently hopeful.
Application:
How many areas of my life do I need to be patiently hopeful, and not insistent? Too many. Like Paul, I’d like to be positive and hopeful, and wait upon God to do his will in my life.
Prayer:
God, I ask that you help me to be patiently hopeful, remaining positive because I know that your good works in my life will lead me in the direction of your will. And your will is what I want. Please help me to stay behind your lead and not try to get out in front, where I often get into trouble. Remind me daily to seek you first and let you take care of the rest. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
