Phil 1:6 “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Observations:
First, this excerpt points out that God began a good work in you. That promise is reinforced in Ephesians - “for we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Second, it tells us that God will carry that good work on to completion. So, He started it and He will finish it. The completion is in heaven, when we one day will be with Him forever. The beginning is the good works He plans for us here on earth.
Application:
Once saved, we have the opportunity to follow God’s will and do good works here on earth. But, it is my choice to follow God’s will. The only way I can do good works is to follow God’s will. Following my own or the ways of the world will never end in good.
Prayer:
God, please help me to do your good works. Help me to release my will over to yours. I want you to be in control and not me. I want to do good works that make an eternal difference. Help me to stay away from the temptation to try and do it all myself, which only leads to failure and despair. Right now, I give it all over to you, Lord. Take me, use me, mold me, make me all that you want me to be. Amen.
