Going to Israel

I’m going to Israel in three weeks. It’s getting so close! I can’t believe it. I originally started this blog with the thought of keeping folks updated while I was gone. This beginning part has just been practice. So, if you’re interested, stay tuned here and I’ll do my best to keep the site updated. I leave on June 15th. Start from Eugene at 6am, arrive in LA at 9am. Leave LA at 7:30pm, arrive Zurich at 5:30pm on June 16th. Leave Zurich at 10:30pm, arrive Tel Aviv at 3:30am on June 17th. Now that’s some traveling! No matter. I don’t care how we get there. I’m just excited to go. My Dad’s side of my family is Jewish and my uncle’s immediate family is orthodox. His son and daughter and two teenage friends are being bar and bat mitzvahed there. Most of my family and some of my uncle’s family friends are going. It should be a wonderful and meaningful time. I can’t wait. I bought two books this weekend to do some research on the sites. First, to get a leg up on where our tour will be taking us. And second, to research some of the Christian sites I’m going to try and squeeze in during other’s downtime. I want to make the most of my time there. What’s cool is that what’s significant on the Jewish side is also significant to Christians. And even some sites where Jesus was are located in the same places as sites of significance to the Jews.

Zurich rocks. It’s one of the coolest cities I’ve ever visited…and when I was there it wasn’t even open! We flew threw Zurich on our way back from Israel a few years ago.

As I remember, it happened to be Easter weekend - or close to it. The entire city was shut down, but we had a blast taking the train from the airport to downtown and simply wandering around. Don’t miss it! p.s. - buy me some chocolate :)
